5 Ways To Celebrate Valentine’s Day without a Sugar Crash

How  do you  plan on celebrating Valentine’s Day this  year with your family?

Here are 5 ways to celebrate Valentines  Day without a blood  sugar roller coaster!

1.     Make  chocolate covered  strawberries with dark chocolate chips as a fun treat that you   can all make and enjoy together.

2.     Buy several  different red and  purple  fruits  and veggies  and have fun rating them.  Ask  your kids what they  rate  each one and then  have  each  person pick their  favorite. Create  a family  graph of  everyone’s top 2 favorites. Think  beet  chips (just salt and avocado or coconut oil), red  peppers,  strawberries,  and raspberries.  Using a mix of fruits and veggies they already  like with a  fruit  or veggie the don’t like “YET” or haven’t tried, is  and a great  opportunity to  expose them  to  something new! If they are hesitant to try something new, make sure to download our amazing, FREE, tool, the Taste-O-Meter. You can check out this post to learn more about how to use it but the idea is to ask your kids “What they rate it?” instead of asking them to “Take a bite.” This simple shift in language can make a huge difference. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

3.     Have fun making a recipe  together.  There  are  so many delicious, nutritious  and colorful recipes out  there.   Here  are  a few  that we  have tried.

Beet Pancakes

Beet Hummus

Beet Pasta (I haven’t tried this one yet,  but  I need to!)

Smoothie  with  frozen  cherries,  strawberries, or  raspberries  is  always colorful and delicious.  I  like  to add  a  banana  to make the smoothie more  creamy, frozen cauliflower  for added  veggies,  and plain  yogurt for  protein  and healthy fat. This makes a tasty, nutrient dense, Valentine’s Day  breakfast or snack.

4.     Create  a snack tray with  red, purple and white foods.  Here are a  few  foods to help you get thinking…

Applegate  pepperoni

cheese

Dehydrated  beet  chips

Strawberries

Raspberries

Red  grapes

Red  apples

Watermelon

Cherries

Red  peppers

Purple carrots

Beet Hummus

5.     Make  a Valentine’s Day fruit  salad.  This is a  great  activity  to do as a family while practicing knife skills and of course, trying  new  foods  together.

What did I  miss? If you are looking for a quick and easy dinner to go along with the Valentine’s theme, check out our Veggie Packed Meat Sauce with pasta. I make it weekly and it is always a family favorite.

Wishing you and your family a Happy Valentine’s Day full of love and colorful fruits and veggies!
